Wendy: Hello everyone! Welcome to EF English Class. My name is Wendy and today Thomas is back again to talk.
我是Wendy. Hello, Thomas!
Thomas: Hello Wendy! Hello everyone! Before we start, I just wanted to wish you a very Happy Birthday!
Wendy: Thank you?... but it’s not my birthday.
Thomas: It’s not?!
Wendy: No, my birthday is on March27th.
When is your birthday?
Thomas: My birthday was on August the 15th.
Wendy: Oh你刚刚过完你的生日. 你生日怎么庆祝的？
What did you do for your birthday?
Thomas: No, not really. I worked on that day, so Ichose another day to celebrate with my friends.
What things do you like to do on your birthday?
Thomas: Well, when I was a child my parents would hold parties for me. I would invite my classmates and friends over to have fun on my big day.
And, what would you do at the party?
Thomas: Well, we would play games, eat food, have cake, make a wish and then I would open my presents.
What was your favorite present?
Thomas: Oh, that’s an easy question. My favorite present was a tennis racquet that I received for my 12th birthday. Because of that racquet, I learned how to play tennis. In fact, I went on to play tennis for my high school and college teams. I still like to play nowadays whenever I have the chance.
Wendy: 12岁的生日礼物网球拍你都还保留着，太珍贵了。我还记得你一开始说生日聚会的 时候你们会玩游戏。 你们一般玩什么游戏呢？
Earlier, you said that games are also played at birthdays. What games do you play?
Thomas: Hmmm? Well we like to play a lot of games with blindfolds. Blindfolds are used to cover our eyes so that we can’t see as we try to pin the tail on the donkey.
Pin the tail on the donkey！
Are there any other games with blindfolds?
Thomas: Oh yes. I remember one birthday having a piñata.
Wendy: Piñata? 这是什么 What’s that?
Thomas: Well, it’s an animal that is made from many layers of paper and glue. The glue helps it to become quite solid so that it doesn’t break easily. The piñata is hung from the ceiling and the blindfolded person has to hit it with a stick. Eventually, the piñata breaks and candy falls from it. It’s a Mexican tradition, and it’s a lot of fun.
It sounds like fun! Well, it’s time to say goodbye for now. Thank you, Thomas, for coming and talking about birthdays.
Thomas: Thank you, Wendy, for having me on the show.
Wendy: Thank you for coming and don’t forget to join us next time. Goodbye!
